"Much more than just a walk at the beach..."
STROLLER STRIDES: Fitness for Mom; Fun for Babies!
Comparable to circuit-training, STROLLER STRIDES is a TOTAL FITNESS PROGRAM that moms can do with their babies & stroller-age children. We sing, blow bubbles, and interact with the children before, during, and after the workout. The workout includes power walking, cardio bursts and stations for toning exercises. We use tubing, the stroller and the environment. You bring the intensity; we'll bring the fun! ALL FITNESS LEVELS ARE WELCOME.
WHY STROLLER STRIDES? Member Reyena Kimpton says she chose Stroller Strides because she didn't want to be away from her precious baby girl, Isabella Josephine, now 14 months. "With a new baby, being inside all day gets old; the last thing I wanted was an indoor workout...Not only have I lost nearly 40 pounds, but I have made so many friends, and so has my daughter."
REMINDERS: Please ARRIVE 15 MINUTES EARLY for sign-in and introductions. We will leave on time and don't want you to miss any of your 60-75 minute workout.
WHAT TO BRING: Don't forget to bring a towel, sunscreen and water for you and your baby, plus a mat for abdominal exercises and of course a small diaper bag for those unexpected surprises! Please wear proper footwear (closed-toe shoes).
SPECIAL BONUS: Sign up for a monthly, unlimited Stroller Strides membership by the end of your first week and receive $25 off your one-time registration fee!

Sometimes we know the right things to do, but need a reminder every once in a while. Here are some helpful strategies to get you going in burning fat and gaining lean muscle.
**For optimal results, do 30-60 minutes of cardiovascular type exercise 6 days a week and resistance training 4-5 days a week**
1. Prepare your foods ahead of time so it's readily available at each meal. 2. Eat before you get hungry; this is when you're most likely to cheat or overeat. 3. Drink at least 1 gallon of water per day minimum. 4. Eat at least your lean body weight in grams of protein daily. 5. Never go more than 3 ours without eating; this keeps your metabolism burning! 6. Take a multivitamin every day. 7. NO COMPLEX CARBS after 4 p.m. (ie: bread, pasta, crackers, rice, etc.) 8. Eat 6 small meals a day (think tennis ball size) three hours apart.
Six Meal Plan: Eat one item of each per meal
Meal 1: 7 am: Protein, Complex Carbs, Fruits Meal 2: 10 a.m. : Protein Meal 3: 1 p.m.: Protein, Complex Carbs, Veggies, Essential Fats Meal 4: 4 p.m.: Protein Meal 5: 7 p.m.: Protein, Veggies Meal 6: (if needed) 10 a.m. Protein snack before bed
FOOD PURPOSES: Protein (lean steak, fish, eggs, turkey, chicken, tofu, etc.) feeds and repairs muscle tissue. Complex Carbs (whole grains, brown rice, whole wheat pasta, oatmeal, etc.) fuel and energize the muscle (slow burning) Veggies or Fibrous Carbs (the darker the color, the more nutritious) are loaded with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Fruits are very high in sugar, so be careful of serving size and what time of day you eat them. Essential Fats (1/4 cup nuts, 1/4 avocado, flax oil, olive oil, etc.) are important for maintaining healthy organ function, skin, and joint lubrication, as well as aiding in burning the bad fats.
Etc.
WEATHER: Capitola Mall for Rainy Days
Although we WILL work out in a light drizzle (think misty fog-like conditions), we will head over to the mall when it's actually raining. Don't let the weather keep you inside; we'll be at the mall raising our heart rates, burning fat, and building muscle! It's not West Cliff, but it's a great workout!
Check for an email by 8:30 a.m. or call the 800# to see if it's a "rainy day schedule". (800/490-1805 or feel free to call my cell 831/247-5236)
POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION
The Term "Postpartum Depression" is often casually and misleadingly used to describe a wide range of emotional and physical reactions that can occur after childbirth. As a result, normal adjustment and stress are often confused with more serious disorders. It is more important to understand that major depression after childbirth is only one of several major disorders that can occur after childbirth. There are three types of PPD:
POSTPARTUM BLUES
* Common * Usually occurs 1-3 days postpartum * Resolves within one to two weeks
DEPRESSION
* Usually begins 2-3 weeks postpartum * Resolves slowly without treatment
POSTPARTUM PSYCHOSIS
* Rare * Rapidly changing state of confusion, agitation
WE NEED YOUR HELP: Postpartum Depression Legislation in the Senate NOW! *
MESSAGE: The United States Senate is considering legislation that would provide funding for postpartum depression research and awareness.
But your help is needed. Please take 30 seconds and send a letter to your Senators (Republican Senators, in particular) to encourage them to pass this legislation.
The Melanie Stokes Postpartum Depression bill (H.R. 20) passed in the House - but we still have to pass the Senate bill, "the Melanie Stokes MOTHER'S Act (S. 1375).
And, it is all of you that helped pass the House bill. Our constituents sent more than 20, 000 letters in support of the PPD legislation!
Now - we need your help again because we are closer than ever!
Bill sponsors Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) have been working with Senate leadership to have the PPD bill be voted on this week as part of a package of other health-related legislation.
See the link below to send a letter to your Senators!
Attachment: http://capwiz.com/ndmda/issues/alert/?alertid=11668371
ACTION REQUIRED: Send a letter to your Senators!
POSITIVE ATTITUES ONLY: Stroller Strides has a no-gossip/no-negativity policy. We feel this is a particularly important strategy since "negative social interactions can carry a heavy toll on physical and emotional well-being (Abbey, Abrams & Caplan 1985; Cohen 2004)."
