Friday September 10th...Botanical Gardens: Playhouses and Forts

Come and join us as we explore the Playhouses and Forts exhibit at the Botanical Garden.

An original exhibit, Playhouses and Forts, debuts June 26, 2010 at the San Antonio Botanical Garden. Eight playhouses and forts have been specially created by members of the local design community for this exhibit.

Each playhouse design is unique; the designs range from a playhouse inspired by a waterwheel to a contemporary take on the Swiss Family Robinson. The innovative structures were chosen from the 33 entries submitted in a contest held earlier this year. Contest entries came from artists, architects, businesses, families, neighbors, community groups, and students.

The exhibit is presented by the San Antonio Botanical Society in partnership with the American Institute of Architects San Antonio Chapter and the San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department.

“Playhouses and Forts simply invites visitors to have fun. Each year we see more and more families enjoy coming to the Botanical Garden and these interactive creations will intrigue the visitors throughout the summer and into the fall,” says Garden Director Bob Brackman.

Local designers let their imaginations run wild! Visitors will see everything from contemporary and modern interpretations of a playhouse or fort to whimsical and quirky presentations. Most designs include environmentally friendly features. All enlist the viewer to participate in some way.

Wednesday September 15th...Free Cars, Free Dinners and a Chevy Demo
This is going to be a fun one. Chevy Texas has offered up a few vehicles and dinner in exchange for 30 minutes of our time.

We are still working out the details but mark your calendar.

In honor of it's 50th anniversary, our September book will be To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. So go find your high school copy and get ready for a classic American novel. Of course our theme will be good ol' Southern food, and Amy B. will be our hostess. In addition to book club we will also be doing a book exchange. If you have some old books you're finished with, bring them and trade for something new! (this is for fun and not required to attend the meeting!)
