COMMUNITY OUTREACH
JULY 2009 - 4th of July On July 1st we helped the Daniel Island Community Association get ready to celebrate our Independence Day by decorating the island with American Flags! We lined the parade route for their 4th Celebration from Etiwan Park to Pierce Park. Yeah, America!
MAY 2009 - WOMEN BUILD! Sea Island Habitat for Humanity - Women Build is finally here! On Saturday, May 9 a group of Stroller Striders will be sweating it out on James Island putting a roof on a new house. It is too late to register to build but if you are interested in helping you can get on Sea Island's website and donate funds, locate a drop-off store for your used household appliances and fixtures or volunteer for a future project! (Habitat link on main SS website page)
FEBRUARY 2009 - Valentine's Love We went to Summit Place (formerly Spring Arbor) Assisted Living on Daniel Island on Feb 9th for our 2nd Annual Valentine's Craft Day. We enjoyed stroytime by the residents as well as making Valentine's cards with and for the residents. What a great way to share love with our neighbors for Valentine's Day!
NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 08 - Lowcountry Orphan Relief All month long we will be collecting clothes and shoes (new or used, in good condition) for the many children in need in the lowcountry. We will also collect toiletries, stuffed animals (no toys) and school supplies. We all love our children dearly. Please consider helping show this love to other needy children in our own town! See their website for more information www.lowcountryorphanrelief.com.
OCTOBER 08 - Go PINK! For Breast Cancer! October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We will be participating in the 5K Race for the Cure on October 18 to show our support. A portion of your entry fee goes to support ongoing research. There is also a space on your registration form to add any additional donation you would like to make. Please consider supporting this worthy cause.
JUNE 08 - Habitat for Humanity - Books for Babies! Reading is the foundation of education, and ALL children deserve to have some of their own special books to read! For the month of June, Stroller Strides collected books for a family preparing to move into their brand new Habitat for Humanity house! This family has preschool aged children (just like us!). We made bookshelves for them and filled those bookshelves up with books! THANK YOU for all your support!
